Behind The Scenes in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Our challenge was this: to teach 400 sales people about realising dreams and achieving breakthrough in a span of just a few hours. Sprinkle with added complications – a foreign language, different culture, sourcing of equipment, immigration, external parties to handle, etc.

‘Movers And Shakers’ is a highly interactive, energising and motivating programme to get participants on a ‘high’ for the next few hours. Experience tell us that details of what goes on behind the scenes matter a lot. To continually engage and motivate every single individual throughout took the  total concerted effort of the team. Massive preparation started way before the programme to ensure that as soon as we landed in Thailand, everything will move like clockwork with minor glitches.

Two things we had to look into: logistics and programme flow.

Logistics for doing a programme overseas is usually a tad more challenging. Looking through the long list of equipment needed, we realised that we had to purchase some of the heavier equipment over there so as not to add to the weight of the baggage we’re bringing over from Malaysia. Equipmentwise, we also had to look into storage, separation and preparation of each unit for every activity and game.

Ensuring all our equipment were ready and on standby

Seating arrangements, audio and video setup and lighting can affect the ambience of any given programme. They complement dramatic and teachable moments making them much more memorable and impactful. We had to deal with external parties for this segment. Personally for every facilitator, understanding a bit of the local language (also the accent) helped quite a bit in the preparations.

Rehearsals! Rehearsals! Rehearsals!
We were constantly looking into ways of improving every aspect of the programme learning flow, from the dramatic introduction to ending it on a ‘high’ note. The programme is structured as a crescendo rising to a climactic end. To ensure that we knew every part of the programme, we went through each activity as participants. To experience the games as participants allow us to think of ways of how to manage, instruct and control the flow and crowd as well as to complement our individual roles among ourselves. This definitely helped a lot for us to visualise the actual outcome of every activity.

Rehearsing on stage

All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy. So we made sure that we had fun along the way doing what we do best. Dosages of mirth in between work made everything so much more enjoyable.

Our experience in running programmes overseas and locally was even more significant here as every piece of contribution helped the team tremendously. The result? A fantastic and effective programme that left a mark not just for the participants, but for us, the facilitators as well.
